Goal: A lot of Disney studies to boost my drawing skills, and also updates about new games :)

Older batch of Disney studies

5/15/26: The new game will be all about designing a ball gown as you can see here, but I couldn't resist including this twirly skirt as one of the options :)

The Little Mermaid Andersen Illustration

5/13/26: This is a little mermaid I drew last year. I was trying to portray the very warm feeling at the end of the original tale by Hans Andersen, which is completely missing in the Japanese anime by Tomoharu Katsumata. Her fate is that she becomes a "daughter of the air": after having been a mermaid in the sea and a human on land, she is now in the air as a sort of guardian angel. There's a sense that all her wounds have been healed; she feels wonderful and whole, so the reader can be relieved for her and feel good also for the prince who is a newlywed. It's an ending similar to The Little Match Girl, if you know this story; both sad and happy.

Mermaid Study Tomoharu Katsumata
5/11/26: The Little Mermaid from the Japanese anime. It's one of the first animated movies I've watched in my childhood, along with Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp, when I was little and my family got a VCR. This Japanese movie is well made and very moving, but very rough! The script follows the Andersen tale closely, although they added some of their own elements, like the dolphin Fritz who is her best friend in the sea and cries bitter tears at the end when she dies. This movie would leave me with a knot in my throat. When I discovered the Disney version with Ariel and Eric, I was like wow, that's way happier!

Hair Color Palette
5/8/26: Hair palette for the new dress up game
When I draw an item of hair in Photoshop, I make sure that each color is on its own layer, so that color duplicates can easily be made by changing the color of each layer.
Then in Animate, where I program the game, I can apply filters to the bright hair created in Photoshop, and obtain more colors for the color palette. Filters are very light on the file, whereas bitmaps imported from Photoshop are heavy, so I use filters whenever I can

Disney study: Snow White sketch and clean lines
4/14/26: To copy / study a Disney character, I usually follow these steps: after observing the pose and proportions for a bit, I jump in with a simple sketch to position the bigger elements. Then I make a 2nd pass. I can either refine the first sketch in the layer directly, or what I did here, make it red and draw in black over it in a new layer. This 2nd sketch is more exact (ex proportions of shapes, positions of lines) and has more details (face, fingers...). Then I fix all the lines to make them clean and clear instead of being searching lines, which is a 3rd pass. Coloring is mindless: I just use the color picker and this way I can check if it really looks like the screenshot. Then a few errors jump at me, and some I go back to the lines and try to fix, some I don't and leave them alone because gotta move on :)

Tinkerbell Disney Study
4/3/26: Back to cartoon references for the Disney studies (instead of references from 3D animation), 2D is more my cup of tea

4/1/26: Different noses for this next game. When the face is from the front, it's all about the lips and eyes, while it's harder to create variations for the shape of the nose. But with a profile, of course it's the opposite!

Create a profile WIP
3/26/26: New game in the making, a profile you can edit to change her nose, lips, chin, eye, eyebrow, and hair
